STATEMENTS on Sept. 13, 2011 Special Election in NY-9

Chairman Sessions Statement on the NY-9 Special Election
Washington, DC – National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Pete Sessions (R-TX) released the following statement regarding Republican Bob Turner’s victory in the special election in New York’s 9th Congressional District:
“This clear rebuke of President Obama’s policies delivers a blow to Democrats’ goal of making Nancy Pelosi the Speaker again.  New Yorkers put Washington Democrats on notice that voters are losing confidence in a President whose policies assault job-creators and affront Israel.  An unpopular President Obama is now a liability for Democrats nationwide in a 2012 election that is a referendum on his economic policies.
“I congratulate Bob Turner on his election victory based on a strong campaign of listening to voters and standing up for job creation, economic opportunity, and one of America’s strongest allies, Israel. Bob Turner understands what it takes to create jobs, and I am confident that New Yorkers will value his work in Congress for free enterprise and liberty at home and abroad.”

Majority Leader Cantor Statement on NY-09 Election Results

Washington, D.C. – House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) tonight issued the following statement after Bob Turner was elected to represent New York’s 9th District in the U.S. House:

"I am thrilled to hear that Bob Turner has pulled off a major victory tonight in New York.  For more than two years, President Obama has pursued an agenda that has produced more spending, more debt, and far too few jobs.  Bob has a background managing companies small and large in the television industry, and knows that sustainable job growth comes from the private sector, particularly small businesses.  He will join a Republican majority that has been focused on creating jobs and changing Washington since day one.

"Bob also understands the special relationship that America has with our friend Israel.  His victory tonight is an indicator that the Middle East policy pursued by the Obama Administration does not sit well with the many people who care deeply about the U.S./Israel relationship.
"Families are frustrated and afraid, and it's time that Washington stops spending money that it doesn't have and starts getting people back to work.  Bob Turner will be a partner in our efforts to do that.  The victory tonight makes clear that whether Republican, Democrat, or Independent, people want to see results.”

Chairman Steve Israel’s Statement on Special Election in New York’s 9th Congressional District

DCCC Chairman Steve Israel released the following statement on the results of the special election in New York’s 9th Congressional District:
“On behalf of the DCCC, I want to thank David Weprin for his tremendous effort. David is a dedicated public servant committed to strengthening Medicare, creating jobs, and protecting the middle class.”
“Special Elections are always difficult – they are low turnout, high intensity races.”
“The results in NY-09 are not reflective of what will happen in November 2012 when Democratic challengers run against Republican incumbents who voted to end Medicare and cut Social Security while protecting tax loopholes for big corporations and the ultra wealthy.”
“When Republican incumbents’ records are tested, the American people will vote for a Democratic candidate committed to creating jobs and protecting Medicare and Social Security.”
