ATLANTA – In accordance with Georgia election law, “the Secretary of State is required to set a date for the state executive committee of each major political party which is to conduct a presidential preference primary to submit a list of the names of the candidates of such party to appear on the presidential preference primary ballot.” On October 6, 2011, Secretary of State Brian Kemp issued a notice to Georgia Republican Party Chairman Sue P. Everhart to notify the GAGOP that the deadline for submitting the list of candidate names for the 2012 Presidential Preference Primary is November 15, 2011.
The Georgia Republican Party gave notice that it would accept requests to be placed on the Presidential Preference Primary ballot through October 31, 2011.
On Monday, November 7, the Executive Committee of the Georgia Republican Party met and considered the requests of the Republican Presidential Candidates to be listed on the Republican ballot in Georgia’s Presidential Preference Primary. After deliberation, the Executive Committee voted to submit the following 10 names to Secretary Kemp to appear on the March 6th Presidential Preference Primary ballot:
Michele Bachmann
Herman Cain
Newt Gingrich
Jon Huntsman
Gary Johnson
Ron Paul
Rick Perry
Buddy Roemer
Mitt Romney
Rick Santorum
“I would like to thank all of the Republican Presidential Candidates
for their interest in appearing on Georgia’s Republican Presidential
Preference Primary ballot,” remarked Chairman Everhart. “The Executive
Committee worked fervently, fully considered each request and
ultimately approved the above list of candidates. I am confident that
the next President of the United States appears on our list, and I look
forward to listening to the voices of Georgia’s Republican voters on
March 6, 2012.”
